Sur les pavés dansaient les omnibus
The ambition of the project is to present a public space that contributes to the network of historical and contemporary squares in Brussels: the potential of adding a new icon to the city. A “Place Pavée” where the streets are covered with cobble stones and the surface of the square is covered with a mosaic of granite plates/tiles alternating with grass or cobblestones. “Jacques Brel” as cultural theme: the square with the dancing omnibus and the Radio building Flagey. The fontain is decorated with Brels lyrics, describing Brussels squares and atmospheres. A monumental sculpture of Brel connects the square and the ponds of Elsene. Furthermore large trees surrounded by a colonade/ pergola with wisteria are positioned on the square. The roof of the pergola is an echo of “the hoods” of the surrounding buildings. Flagey as “Refuge Botanique” in the mineral city.
